Defining The Holy Spirit

This is a blog to the trinity doctrine. Although I cannot change anyone's mind. This is what I have found in my own study and inspiration by YHVH. (Remember we all see through a glass dimly, soon when Messiah comes we will all be told in full. But, some truths are easy to find.)

Many people have difficulty with the trinity doctrine. It is actually a pagan doctrine in origin which Christianity eventually incorporated along with many other pagan traditions.

The Father is the Most High Elohim. Yeshua is also "an Elohim" and was with the Father when everything was created in the beginning. But Elohim in the original language simply meant “mighty one.” Even Moses was called a mighty one.

Exodus 7:1 "And the YHVH said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet."

The original word used where you see “god” in this verse was “elohim” which was the same termed Yeshua was called in John 1:1-2 (In the beginning, the Word was God)

Now Yeshua is not man like Moses, He is the Son of God (YHVH) but nowhere in the Scriptures does any prophets or Yeshua Himself say He is equal with the Father. In fact over and over does Yeshua give all glory and in submission to the Father.

The part that confuses people, is they read the translation and assume it's the correct context. Context is everything in Scripture. Because many people do not understand the culture they cannot correctly interpret the context.

For example in America if you are mad at someone, and you go to tell another person about it. You may say to them "Man. I hit the roof when I heard that." Now ask yourself, was anyone truly hitting the roof or was it just an idiom? (Figure of speech)

So imagine a nation 2000 years removed from us, trying to understand a culture they know nothing about or did not research the origins of the culture’s language. Trying to explain it in their language which doesn't even use the same style or references.

They would probably try and figure out “how high the roof was on their houses.” When there were never any physical roofs involved.

The same thing goes for the Scriptures in English. We hear God the Father, Yeshua and the Holy Spirit are one. Assuming it means one physical being or combined physically somehow. Because to us "one" means all together physically In Hebrew word for one is, Echad.

Which simply would mean they all agree. Remember Yeshua prayed to the Father and said…

John 17:21 "that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me."

So do you think Yeshua was saying that He wants all of us to be God with Him, taking it from a trinity to billionity? Of course not, that's inaccurate.

All He means is the Father who is above all is in agreement with the Son. They would not have two separate agendas. Just like the disciples and those gathered in the upper room at Pentecost were all on one accord. They all were one, because they agreed with one mind.

Now on to the Spirit being a physical person. Again to understand we must get back to the original context of what God says is the Spirit. The original word God called the Spirit is Ruach Strongs # H7306

Meanings are…

Wind, breath, mind, spirit breath wind of heaven quarter (of wind), side breath of air

Now many people will claim to add things on to the original, but that's not what it was at the beginning. And Yehovah says he does not change.

Malachi 3:6 "For I am the YHVH, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed."

So if He created the Spirit with those attributes, He would not recreate them to be a physical being later after Yeshua rose again.

In addition many people will claim because it references the Spirit of Elohim as a "HE" must mean that it is a person. Is the Biblical or an assumption of the text? In the book of Proverbs "Wisdom" is called a "her."

Proverbs 1:20 "Wisdom cries out; she utters her voice in the streets."

Proverbs 8:1-2 "Doesn't wisdom cry out? Doesn't understanding raise her voice? On the top of high places by the way, where the paths meet, she stands."

So using our 20th century interpretation, is wisdom a literal physical being in heaven or somewhere in the atmosphere? Of course not! The Spirit is also called "it" in Scripture as well.

Another clue that the Holy Spirit is not a physical being is something Paul does in most of his epistles. He always references in the intro to his letters, The Father and the Son, but never once does he even acknowledge the Spirit as a being. If these 3 are truly one and equal; how come Paul never mentions its name. He always says something in this manner…

"Praise be to the Elohim and Father of our Master Yeshua Messiah, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Messiah."

No reference or acknowledgment of the Spirit as an individual is ever given by Paul this way, why? Because Paul knows it's not a thinking being with true emotions.

Many will say the verse that says "Don't grieve the Spirit" Is this proof it has feelings?

Not necessarily because this could simply mean, if you continually reject Yehovah’s call to repentance. His Spirit will be withdrawn from you and will not appear as strong in you as others. Yehovah doesn't wish to chase you if you aren't willingly to be caught by Him.

So the Spirit will be slowly removed from you. We have to remember, Yehovah is merciful, but He is also just. He must judge us for what we know.

James 4:17 "Therefore to him that knows to do good, and doesn’t do it, to him it is sin."

So Yehovah being merciful rather remove the Spirit of conviction than give you knowledge of something that will condemn you even more. We know there is a level of judgment by this verse.

Luke 12:46-48 "the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces, and assign him a place with the unbelievers. "And that slave who knew his master's will and did not get ready or act in accord with his will, will receive many lashes, but the one who did not know it, and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but few."

Yeshua says...

Revelation 22:12 ""Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done."

How could Hilter get the same reward as some thief who never repented? That would not be just and fair.

So what is the Spirit of Yehovah then if it’s not a physical person?

Luke 1:35 "The angel replied to her:" The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the holy One to be born will be called the Son of Elohim."

The Spirit is the power of Elohim (Yehovah) and is not a person but His essence as a force which is powerful.

Note: The word used in Greek for "power" is δύναμις pronounced "dynamis" Strongs #G1411

Meaning: in the following manner: power (77x), mighty work (11x),strength (7x), miracle (7x), might (4x), virtue (3x), mighty (2x), misc (9x)

For example, do you feel the sun?

Well yes, and no.

You cannot physically feel the sun or you would die. But you can feel the essence of the sun (Rays) and it has power to it. Even though it is not the originator of that power.

Hope this helps someone, although some will never look into these things and hold to traditions passed down to them. Yeshua fought with the religious leaders about this in HIs day. If you choose to believe the Spirit is a person, that's your preference and that's ok that others do not see it the same way. But, we should all love, as Yeshua loved and praise the Most High (Yehovah)

Be blessed my brothers and sisters.
